TERROIR

Between the mountains and the sea.

The vines and the terroir.

The Story.

The Osório de Vasconcelos Jardim Gonçalves family arrived at Quinta da Azenha guided by memories and roots. The Monserrate hillside reminded Maria d'Assunção of the valleys and hills of Távora-Varosa, while the proximity of the sea, the cliffs of Colares, and the mountains of the Serra de Sintra reminded Jorge of Madeira, where he was born. At Quinta da Azenha, they built their new house, with a ground floor opening onto the garden, like a house on the Monte in Madeira, and it was the reunion point for those origins.

Between the mountains and the sea.

The Sintra and Colares region boasts a unique terroir, the result of the interaction between different soil types, the strong Atlantic influence, and the peculiar microclimate created by the Sintra Mountains. This mountain range acts as a natural barrier, moderating humidity and temperature, generating microclimatic variations that influence viticulture. These factors not only determine the identity of the region's wines but also profoundly shape the landscape.
